During the call, the “CFO” instructed the employee to transfer over $35 million USD to several bank accounts for what was described as a confidential business transaction.
What the employee didn’t know was that the entire video call had been faked. Cybercriminals had used deepfake AI technology to mimic the voices and faces of executives using publicly available media.
